Emden’s economy presents itself in a variety of ways, although the automotive, port, tourism, logistics and energy sectors are the focus. A dense network of suppliers, qualified skilled workers, free settlement areas and optimal connections to transport routes in Europe and overseas make Emden an attractive location for industrial companies, energy service providers, freight forwarders, industrial and commercial enterprises, but also for other sector focal points. One of the largest employers in Emden is the Volkswagen plant with its subsidiaries.
Emden, with its approximately 34,000 jobs subject to social security contributions, is regarded as a job engine in East Frisia. More than half of the employees work in service occupations, and a further 45 percent in manufacturing.
